The problem with models is when people come to conclusions about reality based on a model rather than adjusting the model to match a changing reality.
This is the case with the so-called “4th Turning” model, which uses 80 year cycles to explain global events.
According to the 80 year model, we should just be coming out of a crisis phase but as far back as 2018 this model was not describing what I personally saw ahead of us. I saw we had only had a few minor crises and our solutions to this as a nation and planet had only been band aids, not solving the root of the problems.
COVID was just a dress rehearsal that showed us where cracks in society were and how events would unwind during the real crisis.
COVID was a warning. It gave us a kind of punch list of things to fix or adapt in our personal lives for the next crisis. The evergreen joke is about toilet paper but the serious reality is to be prepared for shortages in even basic necessities.
This week the stock market is in a nose dive and there are no adults in the room on Pensyvania Avenue. The retards have taken control of any kind of possible response. The upcoming crisis phase has been set in motion and nothing in our existing tool box will fix it because; first, all the tools we have are designed to fix the last cycles crises and second, even those tools are under lockdown by MAGA. It will be two years before there is even any potential for any kind of legislative challenge and four years before any respobsible solutions have the posdibility to be implemented.
When the last financial crisis hit In 2008 we only had a short period of time before a new congress and chief executive took action to reverse the crisis. What followed was a period of several years of corporate bankruptcies and layoffs. This time we can expect that period to last up to a decade rather than just a couple years in the best case and multiple decades if humanity takes longer to wake up. No natural born American who is still alive has experienced economic turmoil like what is on the horizon.
Yet all this was inevitable.
Humanity needs to discover alternatives to the captalism vs socialism debate.
Humanity needs to realize technology is only a tool, not any kind of new life. AI is aptly named artificial, not actual intelligence. Life and living are what one does offline, in the physical world in a biological body - not in a dystopian techno feudal online artificial life.
Humanity needs to learn that consumption is only healthy up to a point necessary to sustain life. After that point, consumption is poison. Consumption of artificial food and artificial entertainment leads to poisoning of the body and spirit, respectively. Watching others live according to a predetermined and formulaic script on a screen is not life.
Corporations are not humans and should not have rights that supercede himan life. The corporation needs to be recognized as an enemy to life and has goals directly in opposition to living a good healthy life.
These are a few lessons humanity needs to learn before we will see an end to this upciming crisis phase.
It might be interesting to see what lessons others think humanity needs to learn to rise out of the crisis, particularly on the undividual scale - because it will be important to find individual solutions first while the large global solutions take decades for the powers that be to figure out and implement
