Information Warfare Education, Propaganda, and How to Tell the Difference

The burden would be on you to actually show to a reasonable degree that a specific recognized leftist outlet has marginal accuracy or credibility - because that sentence is doublespeak to be honest. A publication becomes recognized because of the very fact that it DOES have credibility over a period of decades by providing accurate and reliable stories, while I remember The Daily Mail has been a joke with the British since before even the Internet.

@raybennett

Buddy, we’ve gone through this time and time again.

If I mention “Clinton Foundation” you can claim “so what, that’s just business” meanwhile “Trump’s a millionaire from corrupt political practices”. And “remember that peeing incident in Moscow”.

This is a VERY valid point regarding information today. For grins we flipped between CNN and FOX last night. They absolutely cover different topics. And I suspect the population picks their media outlets based on what they each want to hear about.

You want to focus on the ex-President and are concerned he may become President in 2024. I don’t care much about this. Just as I could care less what 44 and family are doing today.

Meanwhile I want to focus on the current Administration and apparatchik that goes along with it. What kind of future is his apparatchik moving us towards? Is it healthy, integral, regressive, rule of law based, transformational, corrupt, same-o-same-o?

And yes @raybennett , the documents story does concern me a bit. I’m happy that it doesn’t appear they were leaked to the NYT or hacked by the Russians. I don’t know what’s in the documents so I’ll “go freaking OMG outrage on someone, anyone” once I know what’s in them. One thing that the CNN guest did say last night is that Presidents have a LOT of discretion. We’ll see how it plays out.

Am I concerned that Project Veritas was raided by an FBI SWAT team FOR RETURNING Ashley Biden’s Diary as they are in Defamation suits with NYT’s?
Yup, but you aren’t so that’s quite all right.

Daily Beast is right there with Daily Mail according to @corey-devos favorite fact checking site. And do note that I did clearly state that just because they sometimes/oft are inaccurate doesn’t immediately discredit the specific article.
Key point here is Corey reference ABC who used “as reported by” a source - Daily Beast - that the industry views as below the “gold standard” in credibility.

Yes, and a million times later you can’t understand that Clinton and Trump ARE NOT THE SAME, lol. Biden and Trump ARE NOT THE SAME.

And you are the only one talking about the piss tape. I don’t care if he hired a hooker to piss on him or not or whatever the allegations are - I’ve never mentioned it.

Well, the focus on the administration. Neither Hunter Biden nor Hillary Clinton are in the current administration, so why are we even discussing them? It’s like if we for some reason Brought Baron into the discussion or Dick Cheney from a prior administration long past.

I am worried about Law enforcement overreach ACROSS THE BOARD - not selectively. But again, that is consistent with Hunter Biden / Hillary Clinton - they were not Government Agents nor Law enforcement.

Wait - are you saying that theft is not a crime, or that law enforcement should not investigate an actual crime? Or both, or selectively according to which side they politically fall into.

Theft is a crime, buddy. That is clearly a fact. If you STEAL something (like someone’s personal diary), that is a specific crime I can point to. If you then publish that stolen information and transmit it across state lines - that also is a specific crime.
You are so twisted up in your social and political identity that you refuse to recognize the difference between when a crime actually occurs and when it does not.
If you steal something from a store you can’t just say “oh, my bad - I’ll return it back to the store and that means the police can’t investigate me”.

Actually, yes it does. If someone habitually lies and just makes stuff up 90% of the time, you do have to question everything they say more than a person who has not lied. If a person lies 10% of the time, the suspicion most normal people have when that person makes a claim is proportionate to their prior history of lying - 0% to 100%
You have some kind of strange ideology.

Just to be clear, Daily Mail is ranked “low” for truth telling, which is worst than the Beast’s “mixed” rating. So even though I agree the Beast should not be taken as a primary source (until a story has been confirmed by other reporting anyway) it’s definitely not “right there with” the Daily Mail, and still far better than that tabloid.

Has this discussion encouraged you to exclude disinformation sites like the Daily Mail from your sense-making?

I don’t think even they intended for themselves to be considered respectable. The deliberately chose their own name, and also the layout, font and all the rest of their website including the stories they run.
All those decisions were consciously made to give a certain image, I think it’s a kind of Green baggage to try to “see the best in them” when they made conscious decisions to be seen otherwise

And now even Durham is backing away from Trump and the right wing media machine’s “interpretations” of his filings. Which are basically the same interpretations that Brother Tequila brought into this thread.

drop-the-mic-mic-drop

@corey-devos
OF COURSE the media spins legal filings. Its not news that media peddles hyperbolic amygdala hijacking story lines is it?

@raybennett very cute

Just because they spin it does not mean anyone is obligated to guzzle it down like a thirsty man in the desert.
Nor is it necessary to accuse others of falling for media spin while refusing to accept the possibility for oneself.

This is all why I pretty much avoid mass media, and especially passive media where I cannot chose minute by minute what is being programmed.
I also avoid emotion-laden news media, because I also know that is a tool for manipulation - triggering anger or fear responses in their audience and thus reducing their audiences cognitive ability in order to slip in messaging that is biased and inaccurate.

Guess which side I notice is more infused with strong negative emotions?

I guess it’s also why I prefer to get my exposure to current affairs from Comedians - because they are already tearing apart the mainstream story in order to produce a laugh and a perspect5ive no one else has expressed, and at the same time I understand of course that I have to take a comedian with a grain of salt.

Nah, I don’t like complaining whining humor, I like it more more outside the box:

America Is Not Divided; It’s Being Hijacked

We must break the propaganda spell and realize that we have the strength of numbers on our side.

https://amgreatness.com/2022/02/19/america-is-not-divided-its-being-hijacked/

Well, then break the spell.
Can you start by recognizing the irony of that article being posted on American Greatness?

Do you see America as Great only if one side gets what they want, and not Great if most people want America to go in a direction you disagree with?

Funnily enough, there is a correlation to parenting here. If you have a child and they completely do not follow the path you want them to follow, but go the opposite direction. Do you still tell them they are great and support them, or constantly try to reduce their accomplishments in the areas you disagree with?
I was recently challenged by this with my daughter when she dropped out of University. I was really proud of her for getting into a specific University program, and then had to shift gears very suddenly and look at it from a new perspective or risk impeding her success.

I think a lot of this “American Greatness” or “Make America Great Again” is based on "America is only Great when it does everything I want it to do, no exceptions.

Or with Partners / Spouses - I find it quite common for people to withhold affection and love when the partner or spouse does not follow the very specific path the other spouse wants them to follow. I see that this inevitably leads to an unhealthy relationship or divorce.

@raybennett Much wisdom in your post. Dettaching from the outcome without becoming cynical, apathetic.

One point in the article is that some of the “well known populist ideals” in actuality are not held by a majority of Americans.
Hence, don’t be shy, don’t buy into gaslighting, don’t buy into the misinformation, don’t buy into the shaming narrative.
To follow your example with your daughter it might be to not shame yourself for failing as a parent that she isn’t in University. You’ve got a mature view.
As someone “near” you it might be for me to not buy into as an example “free tuition is the key to college education”.

A personal example is sweet loving hard working intelligent smoking hot wife almost always does what she wants when she wants. I’m appreciative of what she does do if and when she does it. Lol

On the comedians, I’m a big fan of Burr. Surprised he hasn’t been attacked.

@FermentedAgave well Bill Bur is attacked. And I would not want a world where he isnt and I dont think he would either.

It used to be that if you said or did something rude, you could be punched in the face. We then got into a culture where nobody could do or say anything rude. Now the pendulum has swung the other way and people want to say or do rude things and face zero consequences. It has even got to the point where people want to again do criminal activity and not face consequences ( like grabbing women by the pussy).

Bill burr does get attacked, but all edgy comedians know that they need to be able to handle it or choose another profession.

Didn’t know about Bill’s attacks. Good news now is every time now just raises awareness and accelerates exposure of Wokei-anity and the Racist Industrial Complex war on the Citizenry. Rogan, Peterson, Chappelle, Kavanagh, Trump are the rocks upon which the Wokeists power domanance attempts are dying.

@FermentedAgave
Would you agree with me that there should still be some social stigma attached to rude behavior?

If we up the stakes a bit, do you think that sexual advances have no place in the workplace?

Then if we go up in the stakes even more, do you agree that grabbing a secretary’s ass should be illegal, as should just grabbing women by the pussy when you are in a position of power over them?

These are parts of cancel culture that I am still 100% in line with. I’m glad Harvey Weinstien was brought low and is now a paraiah, and the same with Bill Cosby and many many others. I accept that we won’t agree in all cases, but I think it would be significant if we could agree to the most egregious cases.
