Hi Corey,
In 1994, *Sex in America: A Definitive Survey" written by Robert MIchael claimed it was “the only comprehensive and methodologically sound survey of America’s sexual practices and beliefs.” I was stunned by the amount of sex married and unmarried couple “weren’t” having. Since I came of age in the early 70’s I thought the percentages were so low compared to the experiences I saw all around me that it didn’t seem believable.
I called him to obtain more insight and one of his main claims was at that time, the majority of people didn’t leave their birthplace of origin and thus didn’t have many available partners, especially of different ethnicities to chose from. I am glad to see that regardless of Hollywood and Wall Street, marriages are still based on tender, loving care and having a soul mate rather than believing a couples physical sex life has to be a top priority. I may be wrong, but I don’t believe it is as much a concern for people as it was forty or fifty years ago but I still have to believe there are a lot of people in the US who feel like when the initial (infatuation) romance is over, something is wrong.
Oh yeah, I would add that today’s general audience movies are much more focused on violence pornography, Again, I don’t have the data but it seems that top movies released today are more infested in blood letting than sexual activity.
